Photography in Schools and Nurseries See also Photographing ChildrenSchool children under 18 are photographed at the discretion of their Head Teacher. Parents often give permission for children to be photographed when they start at a school. The photographer first ensures that this system is in place, asks which children are NOT to be photographed and allows the school to check photographs prior to publication. This usually applies to press releases as well as school portraits. Purchase of School Portraits Parents of school/nursery children are under no legal obligation to purchase or to return pictures which are not requested goods. Agreeing to a child being photographed is not the same as agreeing to receive prints. It is hoped that they will be purchased because they are very good value. Some schools receive commission from print sales. They may be asked to send out payment reminders but not to put pressure on people to buy.
